Boeing
737-300 is commencing its approach seconds after
a cumulonimbus-cloud
drifted over the airport. The Boeing 737 was launched as
a short-range airplane in 1965 to complement the larger
707 and 727 jetliners.
Engineers chose wing-mounted engines for the 737 instead
of an aft-mounted position like on the Boeing 727,
Douglas DC-9 and BAC One-Eleven. The 737 configuration
includes a 707-width body, a significant reduction in
overall fuselage length compared to the 727 and less
structural weight per passenger carried.
